What is the difference between PAN and TAN?

PAN means Permanent Account Number, it is used for-* Filing Income Tax Return
* Used for deduction of TDS by bank, financial institutions or other persons.
* TDS will be deducted at lower rate as compared to without pan rate.
TAN means Tax deduction and collection account number, it is used for-
* Filing TDS return
* Deposit of TDS liability or TDS deducted of others
* TAN is used by the collector of TDS
For PAN registration, not required TAN but for registration of TAN, PAN is compulsory.
